BDO Gold Cup Ladies Singles played at Lakeside Country Club, Frimley Green on Saturday, July 7th 2012.

After winning Worcestershire County qualifiers Zoe played at Lakeside Country Club to take on other county Champions.
Zoe first opponent was Derbyshire’s County qualifier Joanne Oldershaw, it was level after the first two legs, the 3rd leg although Zoe hit scores of 100,140,96  Joanne missed two darts at double 6 for a 69 checkout, before Zoe checked out with 56 to go 2-1 ahead. Zoe then hit 100,180 in the forth leg for a 3-1 victory.

In the second round Zoe took on Surrey’s & England International Apylee Jones, after going a leg down Zoe started going through the gears winning the next 3 legs in 15 darts (180), 18 darts, and 17 darts to win 3-1 for a place in the last 16.

Next up was Staffordshire’s Sarah Cope, this was a one sided affair Zoe again doing some heavy scoring including another 180 and came out the 3-0 winner.

The Quarter finals saw Zoe come up against Welsh number 1 & World number 2 Julie Gore.
I think this was about the 7th time these two great friends have met, Julie having the better of some fantastic matches 4- 2.

This game was no different Zoe taking the first leg in 16 darts, 2nd leg Zoe again scored heavy hitting 180,123,100, leaving tops after 12 darts, Zoe missed 40 with her next 3 darts but hit double 10 with her first dart in the next visit to win the leg in 16 darts and go 2-0 up. Julie then hit back starting the 3rd leg with a 180 and taking her double straight out. With the match 2-1, Zoe wasn’t going to let this leg slip, she again hit 180 and left 36 after 15 darts, Julie hits a 140 to leave a finish and puts the pressure back on Zoe, with 36 left Zoe took all 3 darts to win on double 9 and take the match 3-1.

Semi Final
Zoe gets her first chance to play on the famous Lakeside stage for semi final against the 2 X and current World Champion Anastasia Dobromyslova. The last time Anastasia had played on this stage was in January where she beat Deta Headman to win her second world title, so for Zoe this was going to be about whether she could settle down and play the darts she had all day on this famous stage.

The first leg was a very nervous start by both players Zoe missing 5 darts at the double and Anastasia finally took the leg with the 9th attempt at the double. With the first leg out the way both players seemed to settle down. Zoe hitting 180 and just missing 32 for a 111 game shot, Zoe still took the leg on double 8 for a 16 dart leg to level the match at 1-1. In the 3rd leg Anastasia then hits scores of 121,180 and Zoe 100,140 before Anastasia checked out on 67 and a 15 dart leg to go 2-1 ahead. Anastasia starts the 4th leg with scores of 100, 100, 81 but it was Zoe with 140 and a 52 checkout levelled the match at 2-2 for a sudden death leg. Anastasia won the bull but it was Zoe that went through to the final with scores of 100, 97,140 and 46 checkout and recorded a 24.74 average to march into her first ever Gold Cup final.
In the Final Zoe played Norfolk’s Dawn Standley winner of this event in 2008.
Zoe got off to a good start and took the first leg with a 60 checkout to go 1-0 up. The 2nd leg saw Zoe hit scores of 100, 100, 100, and 99, and just missing 102 checkout, Zoe then missed 3 darts a double 8 but it was Dawn with a 56 checkout who levelled the score at 1-1. In the 3rd leg Zoe again starts well with scores of 100,134, Dawn hit scores of 123,139 but it was Zoe who took the leg for a 2-1 lead. Dawn won the 4th leg to make the match all square at 2-2 and another sudden death leg for Zoe. Dawn won the bull but it was Zoe that took the leg with a 50 checkout to win the 2012 BDO Gold Cup Singles.
