 EASTBOURNE DARTS CLASSIC 2009

January 30th-31st Eastbourne Darts Classic 2009 Youth singles

This weekend we travelled south to the Eastbourne Classic.

On the Saturday morning it was the Ladies Pairs, and the first time to see the new pairing of Zoe and Steph Smee. After winning their first game 3-0 against M Newton & K Regan, and the second round 3-1 against J Hopkins & L Hitchens, the pair came up against Trina Gulliver & Sue Biddle in the last 8 to unfortunately lose 3-1, not a bad performance from Zoe and Steph, who in time I think can only improve the longer they play together.

In the afternoon it was the Youth Singles and with over 50 entries and with only 3 girls it was going to be a hard task ahead for Zoe.

Round 1

Zoe 3   Alexander Pecker 0

Round 2

Zoe 3   Daniel Miller 2

Round 3

Zoe 3   Connor Levett 1

Quarter-finals

Zoe 3   Todd Rainsley 1

Semi-finals (on stage)

Carl Beatie 1   Zoe 3

Final

Tony Clark 1   Zoe 3

Zoe had played well all day and gained her first youth title of the season which also gives her a place in the Winmau World Masters 2009 at the end of the year.

I would like to mention a couple of the players that Zoe played, firstly Daniel Miller a cracking player, their game was very high scoring  and every leg was won by the player who got to the double first.

Carl Beattie I don’t think he has been playing long but again a very talented young man, who I think you will see more of in the future. And last but not least Tony Clark who played very well in the Semi Final. I have to say I feared the worst for Zoe.

Fortunately Zoe was up to the task making it a very good final, with both players averaging around 22, I would like to wish Tony all the best for the future.

On the Sunday Zoe played in the senior Ladies reaching the last 16 getting beat by Trisha Wright.

Another successful weekend for Zoe and she is looking forward to the Scottish Open in February.
